Recreational Pilot Permit Course
The Recreational Pilot Permit allows you to fly a single engine aircraft with a maximum of four seats anywhere in Canada with one passenger only.
Island Pacific Flight Academy offers the Recreational Pilot Permit based on the minimum of 25 hours of flight training required by Transport Canada. Of that a minimum of 15 hours must be dual instruction and 5 hours solo flight time. There is also a 40 hour ground school program.

Private Pilot Licence Course
A Private Pilot Licence allows you to fly light aircraft in Canada or Internationally with passengers.
Island Pacific Flight Academy offers a Private Pilot Training Program based on Transport Canada's minimum requirements of 45 hours of flight training. Of that a minimum of 17 hours must be dual instruction and 12 hours solo flight time. You must also attend a 40 hour ground school program.

Commercial Pilot Course
Island Pacific Flight Academy offers a Commercial Pilot Licence Training Program following the guidelines set out in the Canadian Aviation Regulations. The commercial flight training will consist of 65 hours. A minimum of 35 hours is dual instruction and 30 hours solo flight time. You must also attend a 80 hour ground school program.

Float Plane Rating >> Island Pacific Flight Academy does not currently offer float plane training. We are however working closely with other float plane institutions and would be happy to recommend one of them to you. Please call 250-655-0394 for details.

Training Requirements
(All Programs)
Age
You must have reached 14 years of age to hold a Student Pilot Permit, 16 years of age for a Recreational Pilot Permit, 17 years of age for a Private Pilot Licence, and 18 years of age for a Commercial Pilot Licence. However, you may begin your training prior to these dates.
Medical
You must meet certain requirements. If you are in good health things will go smoothly. Some people discover they are partially color blind and this might restrict them to day flying only.
Your eyesight must be correctable with the required prescription lenses. Contact lenses are O.K.
The Recreational Pilot Permit requires a Category 4 medical and is valid for 5 years, or 2 years if you are 40 years of age or over.
The Private Pilot Licence requires a Category 3 medical and is valid for 5 years, 2 years if you are 40 years of age or over.
The Commercial Pilot Licence requires a Category 1 medical and is valid for 1 year, 6 months if you are 40 years of age or over.

Knowledge
The Transport Canada minimum requirement for Ground School for the Private Pilot Licence is 40 hours, this ground school also satisfies requirements for the Recreational Pilot Permit.
Minimum requirement for Ground School for the Commercial Pilot Licence is 40 hours. A written exam is administered by Transport Canada, a 60% must be obtained on each of the following subjects covered in Ground School.

When your training is completed, your instructor will recommend you for a flight test, during which you will demonstrate your ability to perform normal and emergency maneuvers appropriate to the aircraft being used for the test.
